Just got my bike back from a shop after they did their yearly maintenance on it. The bike is just a year and a half old and was running fairly decently, just wanted to get the chain and rear cassette cleaned up. I picked up the bike and the rear derailler wasn’t set up right the bike started jumping gears and clicking. I was pissed, but not upset enough to want want to take my bike back to the shop across town.
Wondering if I could just adjust it myself I did a web search and found the Bike Tutor website. Here’s a fantastic site for anyone wanting to get started with their own repairs, they offer instructions and videos that are really well done and easy to follow. Check out their posting on adjusting your rear derailler:
There has been a lot of tilt shift photos and videos popping up lately, this one has to be my favourite videos right now. If you haven’t heard of tiltshift before, it is a technique of using a special lens on a camera to make real life look like miniature models.

Heres a link (mostly added here for myself) to a top ten list of online colour tools. Something that may be helpful if you are trying to come up with a new colour palette for a website or a room painting project.
Here is a great tool to use for your next cycling trip through Vancouver. It takes your start and end points and maps a path through Vancouver. Read the rest of this entry »
After completing another bike ride to Victoria with the kids in tow in their bike trailer and my bike packed down with camping gear I’ve blown out my knee. I think it is just a case of overusing and not spinning fast enough (putting too much load on my knees). I was able to make the ride to Sooke, 84km, without too much difficulty. It was on my return back to Vancouver that my knee starting to ache on the downstroke with my left leg. It gradually got worse but was manageable. The pain was right under and slightly below my knee cap and at times would shoot up the lateral side of the knee cap. If I stopped for more than one minute then it was unbearable to start again, at points I wasn’t able to put enough pressure on the pedal to clip back in. I felt like I rode most of the way home using only my right leg. Read the rest of this entry »
Interested in some different routes, check out the following video on some interesting climbing in Newfoundland Canada. A good introduction to Newfoundland and video of one route called the fifth element.
It’s been close to a year of riding on my 2008 Davinci Melbourne hybrid road bike. I’ve been commuting downtown on it daily through sun, rain, sleet and snow. It is also my first experience with disc brakes.
Keep watching, I’ll post a full review of this bike very soon! I’ll give you a hint of what my review will be like though. I love the bike!
Looks like the construction along the water North West of Science World has moved back from the water and has opened up the bike path again. I was able to take the kids for a bike ride from Kits Beach to the Stanley Park water park without having to bike on any road with cars. It was fantastic!
If you have kids, or anyone timid about riding with traffic, this is a fantastic bike ride.

To the lady driving the Grey Honda CRV on Wednesday June 25th 6:20pm heading West on Cornwall in Vancouver, BC. I’m guessing you were late for a wedding at Jericho beach?
Was it worth the ten seconds you saved by squeezing by those two bicyclists at 60kph? Did you hear them scream in shock and fear as you raced within a foot of their handlebars? Or were you too busy talking on the cell phone? Or maybe you were listening to the radio? Or maybe you were adjusting your makeup?
Please take a moment to think about how dangerous it is to be pushing your metal monster down the road when there are human beings on the road. All it would have taken was one of the cyclists to swerve around a pothole and they would have been mushed into your bumper. Is ten seconds of your life worth someone’s entire life?
