Bicycle Safety Tips

A video published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) provides some cycling safety tips.

C = Cranks, Chain and Cassette
Q = Quick Release Levers

Cycling Rules

  1. Ride in the same direction as traffic
  2. Obey Traffic Signals and Road Markings - don’t be a goof, even if you go through the intersection clean, you make all cyclists look bad when you run a stop sign
  3. Ride Defensively - but don’t ride like a scared grandma. This causes some unpredictability in your riding.
  4. Know the Law - in BC, you must wear your helmet, you are considered a motor vehicle on the road, and don’t ride on the sidewalks
  5. Avoid Road Hazzards - ummm duuuhhh! But some important points, watch out for train tracks and drains. These can grab a skinny tire and throw you over the handlebars. If you must cross a railway track try to go at 90 degrees (perpendicular).
  6. Be Predictable - straight lines, clear hand signals, constant speed.
  7.
