Kidarooz Bike Trailer and Disc Brakes
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008
We purchased a Kidarooz Bike trailer for our two boys over a year ago from Costco for $159 USD.
It has been a fantastic trailer and definitely best bang for the buck. Unfortunately it doesn’t work well with my Davinci Melbourne’s disc brakes. There isn’t enough room to clamp the trailer onto the bike. I’ve had some success in clamping the Kidarooz trailer to the angled bar above the disc brakes but it sometimes slides down into the brake and I have limited my ability to turn sharply to the right as the bar starts to hit the quick release skewer on my rear wheel.
Custom hitch
Looks like I’m not the only one having this problem. One other crafty individual made a custom bracket to solve this problem:

Kidarooz does not work with disc brakes
I took another look at the FAQ on the Kidarooz website and they are very clear that this trailer doesn’t work with disc brakes.
Mountain Equipment Co-op bike trailer
I rode over to Mountain Equipment Co-op. They sell a very similar looking trailer, i.e. exactly the same just different colours. And inquired into their solution for bikes with disc brakes. They have a separate mounting bracket that connects to the quick release skewer. I compared the connection to my trailer and it is slightly different and didn’t seem to work unless I was willing to buy a whole new bar and start drilling some extra holes in it.
Kidarooz excellent customer service saves the day
I called Kidarooz to see if they had any suggestions. And after a 5 minute phone call with a very helpful person they are now sending me a new mounting bracket. The part that surprised me the most is that they are sending it to me free of charge! That is fantastic customer service!
